Box etiquette and the 4 unspoken rules!

Posted on February 13th, 2018 by Crossfit Volentia Coaches

You may have heard through the grapevine that CrossFit gyms generally have some unspoken rules that their members and coaches live by.

Most are not set in stone, they are just good etiquette. To ensure that you aren't left red in the face next time you visit a box, here are the most common that you'll see.

1.     Leave your ego at the door.

Honestly, no one cares how much you used to bench, how much your diamond Rolex costs or how much better than everyone else you think you are.

At the box everyone is equal, people may have different abilities but as a whole, equality rules!

CrossFit gyms promote an inclusive, warm and friendly environment that has no room for people that think they are ''all that''.

Be proud of your achievements, but stay humble.

2.     The workout is over when EVERYONE is finished.

Whether you finished first or in dead last, you deserve to be congratulated on your efforts.

If you finish before your peers, instead of putting your kit away and going outside, cheer them on!

Give them some encouragement or just shout illegible motivational words at them, it all helps!

CrossFit is about community, the whole box growing and moving forward together.

Be part of the solution, not the problem!

3.     Put your kit away

There's nothing worse than a messy gym.

Yes, use everything that you need but put it back where you found it!

This isn't a globo gym, there's no-one to clean up after you, so please, work with the other members and your coaches to ensure that the space that you use on a regular basis is kept tidy and in order.

After all, if you're strong enough to lift it, you're strong enough to put it back!

4.     Do all of the reps

This is an issue that creeps up every now and then and one that can cause a lot of upset!

In CrossFit, we do workouts that are measurable, so that we can repeat them and see if we have improved. If you don't complete the full range of motion (obviously mobility issues etc not withstanding) or even worse, cheating by not doing all the reps, then you miss out on the true benefit of what we do.

Unless you do the workout as required, completing all the reps correctly, you can never repeat the workout and compare your results as they’re different workouts.

If you do it right, you will be the one who reaps the benefits in the long run!

Here at CrossFit Volentia we're lucky that most of these unwritten rules are generally followed. If you continue to have good integrity and put others before yourself, you're likely to be doing all of these things anyway.

Our main aim is to make you feel like a valued part of our community so that you are able to push your physical limits and enjoy your training.

We love welcoming a wide variety of people to come and join us in our community, if you fancy
